Reel Grrls takes over SXSW!
This week, the Reel Grrls team is kicking it in Austin for SXSW! You may have already seen that our award-winning feminist youth media program was selected as one of five grant recipients in the inaugural SXSW Community Grant! We’re so honored to be chosen among a really fantastic pool of non-profits with innovative approaches to address community issues in the Interactive, Film, Music, Education, and Environmental tracks. We were selected for our recent shift in approach to our traditional programs: using mobile technology to reach under-served girls in the Seattle region and beyond to make media that matters. Reel Grrls was the only organization from outside the Austin metro region selected for this grant, and we’re excited to represent Seattle and spread the word about our mission on the ground at the SXSW festivities!
As part of this grant award, SXSW invited us to Austin to take part in the wide range of panels, discussions, and screenings through out the city. We sent our Reel Grrls ambassadors, Nancy Chang (our fearless leader and Executive Director), Michael B. Maine (our Board President), Malory Graham (our founder), and I, Teresa Mozur (Board member and lifelong Reel Grrls evangelist). Stay tuned for updates from our time at the conference, including what we learned and who we met! Or follow along on our adventures through Reel Grrls’ social media channels: Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat (@reelgrrls).
Thanks again, SXSW! We’re so grateful for your support in our mission and allowing us to be a part of this cohort!
