Youth Opportunity Fund Screening November 30th
This past fall Reel Grrls received funding to center youth of color in leadership training. Come hear from middle and high school students about their experience.
Join us on November 30th, at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center Theater from 6:30 – 7:30pm, we will be hearing from students about their experience in the program, and see the work they put together.
The event will feature middle and high school students talking about taking part in our first ever blended leadership program with Arts Corps, as we well as our high school mentors, and the work of our middle school mentees. This event is free and opened to the public. There will be complimentary snacks and drinks.
Reel Grrls was awarded the City of Seattle’s Youth Opportunity Fund this past Fall, to invest in our youth of color with expanded opportunities to build their leadership skills.
The most exciting part of the project, is that we get to work with our Youngstown Cultural Art Center neighbor: Arts Corps. Thanks to the City of Seattle’s Youth Opportunity Fund, we are able to blend two award winning programs together: Reel Grrls’ youth led media production programs and Arts Corps’ Youth Speaks program. The goal of the project is centering young people of colors’ arts leadership capacity through arts facilitation, and digital story production. Additionally, this partnership will build skills in arts, critical thinking, youth development, and employment skills for high school youth of color who will be recruited to gain hands on experience working as teaching assistants at our Denny Middle School Media Club.
