What’s your Reel Grrls #MYGIVINGSTORY ?
Over this past Thanksgiving, we at Reel Grrls reflected on how thankful we are for you, our generous community of current and past donors whom have collectively raised over $1 million dollars since 2014 to ensure that our doors are opened to train the next generation of media makers to tell the stories that are important to them.
Reel Grrls is committed to creating a more inclusive organization, and we have identified that our priority as we do fundraising is to empower everyone in the community to know they play a critical role in the Reel Grrls’ ecosystem by giving at any amount that is meaningful to them, but most importantly we want to hear your stories of why you give to Reel Grrls.
So, what’s your giving story? We know that you love to support the Grrls, so they can tell their stories, but for this Giving Tuesday we want to challenge you to share your story about your philanthropy with #MyGivingStory.
While you’re starting to draft your giving story we want to share with you the impact that donors made on our nimble organization. Did you know in 2018, 100% of our participants were partially or fully subsidized through your gifts? Investments from the past four years from community members like you have ensured that over 1,500 grrls wanting to explore a career in digital storytelling can. Our community has let grrls know that they matter by raising much needed funds to help grrls strengthen their skills in media literacy and gain work experience under the mentorship of local industry professionals in media.
In the past four years we have done more with less, and it is starting to show. The biggest area that we need your help on is to replace costly gear from laptops, cameras, software, lighting, sound equipment that ensures our grrls are using modern technology. That’s why we ask you today on this Giving Tuesday our goal is to raise $2,000 to replace one of our many aging laptops that students use in the Apprenticeship Program. For those that are able to be more generous – if you commit to purchasing a laptop you can name it after your favorite Feminist Icon!
