Lila Kitaeff co-manages RadioActive, KUOW’s youth radio program. She comes to KUOW from Reel Grrls, where she spent eight years teaching media literacy and filmmaking to girls as the organization’s technical director and senior video editor. Her prior youth media experience includes creating and implementing curriculum for filmmaking programs with Adobe Youth Voices, Native Lens, Reel Queer Youth and the World Affairs Council.

Lila believes in the transformative power of media production on the lives of young people, and she loves sharing technical and storytelling skills. You can hear her hosting a funk and soul show on Friday evenings at community station KBCS 91.3FM, where she has been a weekly DJ since 2003.

Lila graduated from Macalester College with degrees in film and communications. She is an award-winning video editor and has shown her work on the Documentary Channel, PBS, the Seattle Channel, Democracy Now!, and at film festivals around the world. Lila has served on the board of Rain City Rock Camp for Girls and was a founding board member of the Seattle Independent Media Center’s video collective, where she spent seven years co-producing a weekly television show that aired on over 20 public access stations nationwide. Her freelance writing has appeared in publications such as The Utne Reader, Youth Media Reporter and Jump Cut Film Journal.
