PITCH FAQ

FAQs for Non-Profits

Can we apply without a youth partner?

No! This is a youth driven project. A youth has to apply and select you as their partner.

Can I use these funds to make a promotional media project for my non-profit?

The media created needs to be about an issue rather than about your organization, though it can

reference your organization. You can also use the finished media on your website and at events to

promote your cause.

Does $1000 grant come to my non-profit?

No! The funds go directly to the media maker. It is fine for them to include appropriate funds to benefit your organization such as stipends, web hosting or event fees.

What is my obligation to the project if I am chosen as a partner?

We ask that you do what you can to support the youth media maker as appropriate. This does not

mean that you are their teacher or their boss but that you help facilitate networking opportunities and

provide guidance to create a successful youth led media project.

FAQ for youth media makers

What if I am not within the specified age range (13-19)?

Consider teaming up with someone who is in the specified age range. That person MUST be part of

the pitch presentation.

Can I submit more than one application?

You can submit up to 3 applications

I’m unclear about specific questions in the application, what do I do?

First make sure you have reviewed the PITCH presentation to share. After that, if you are still confused then get in touch (our contact information is at the end of the same presentation).

What can I spend the money on?

Some possible expenses include:

• Equipment (eg: cameras, microphones, lighting)

• Supplies (eg: backdrop, costumes, art supplies)

• Pizza party for your crew

• Artist stipends (not to exceed 35% of budget)

• Equipment or space rental

Why do I have a mentor? What is the role of that person?

The mentor should act as a sounding board and help you organize your project to keep it on track.

The mentor’s responsibility is not to train you in media production but they might help you in this way as possible. You will be paired with a mentor at the mandatory contract meeting on February 9 from 4-6pm. At this meeting you will develop a production schedule with your mentor.

When do I get my money?

We will walk you through writing an invoice at the contract meeting and funds will be available by

February 22 after receiving your invoice.

What kind of work sample should I submit?

Please share a media piece that you had a substantial role in creating. Please describe your role in

the line where you provide your URL. The best media sample will be one that shows that you can

make the project you are proposing. If it is a video you are proposing then photography samples may

not be the best thing to submit and vise versa.
