Summer 2017 Programs

Reel Grrls will be hosting the following programs for the summer of 2017:

Apprenticeship

THE REEL GRRLS SUMMER APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM IS A UNIQUE Opportunity for a Path to a Career:

This program will be led by long time media producers and youth development specialists Reid Kuennen and Laura Jean Cronin.

Skills gained:

  • Media Literacy — what makes high quality and engaging media
  • Media Justice — how to use media as a tool for social change and empowerment
  • Digital Storytellers — how to use advanced tools to amplify their voice
  • Project Planning & Budgeting
  • Pre-Production and Storyboarding
  • Client Relations
  • Advanced Cinematography
  • Lighting
  • Advanced Audio Production
  • Editing and Post Production

Who can apply:
Female, transgender, and gender non-conforming youth ages 15-22.
Prerequisites: Basic video production or animation experience recommended!

Students who complete the series will gain real-world experience creating professional films for a nonprofit client, receive a $250 dollar stipend and will become eligible for further paid opportunities with Reel Grrls Productions!

Dates:  Monday July 10th – Friday, August 4, 10am-4pm

Grrl Power: Stop Motion Animation

Have you ever wondered how they make your favorite cartoon show or movie? Work in teams to use clay, paper, puppets, whiteboards, toys, and anything you can dream up to create an animated world!

This week’s theme Grrl Power! Are you tired of hearing from people what girls can do or not do? Here is your chance to show the world what Grrl Power looks like to you.

Call the Shots

This hands-on video production workshop provides up to 12 grrls with a creative storytelling opportunity building skills and focus through one-on-one sessions with mentors, including professional filmmakers and teaching artists.

Call the shots and learn the ropes of filmmaking in small production teams that will seek out and tell stories within your community that call you to ACTION! From storyboarding, scriptwriting, teamwork, interviewing, acting/directing, using mobile devices and applications for filming and editing quality videos.
