Volunteer Mentor Application
Thank you for your interest in serving and supporting youth media literacy and justice with Reel Grrls!
Mentors are the lifeline to Reel Grrls! In order to provide a supportive program for our Grrls – we rely on the support and commitment of phenomenal adult volunteers who mentor, train, and learn alongside our participants.
Who should be a mentor?
We value mentors with a variety of backgrounds and skills to share: the main requirement is a commitment to empowering young women through media production. In exchange for their hard work, mentors gain access to a network of Seattle-based filmmakers, artists, activists, and educators.
Reel Grrls centers marginalized voices to create a more equitable media landscape, and highly encourages women of color, gender non-conforming folks, immigrants of all abilities to apply.
All Volunteer Mentors must fill out an application form, complete a background check, and attend a Mentor Camp before being able to mentor youth in any Reel Grrls program or production.
Volunteer Program Mentors are at the core of Reel Grrls programming! Program Mentors are required to be available to work for the duration of a program (programs range from 1 afternoon to 12 weeks) to ensure strong relationships that support youth and program success. Program Mentors work on a volunteer basis and are not compensated except in some reel love and appreciation.
Program Mentor positions are open to individuals who self-identify as female, feminist, transgender, or gender non-conforming.
